James Brown

Accompanist

James Brown was organ scholar at Girton College, Cambridge before studying at the Conservatoire de Musique, Geneva with world renowned organist Lionel Rogg. From there he spent two years as Guest Artist in Residence at First United Methodist Church, Lubbock, Texas, USA and was a graduate research assistant at Texas Tech University.

On returning to England James was organist at Dean Close School, Cheltenham for seven years and Director of Music at Christchurch, Cheltenham. He was also accompanist to the Cheltenham Bach choir and played for them twice on BBC’s Songs of Praise.

James moved to Oxford in 2006 where he is Organist of the University Church, Oxford and a tenor lay clerk in the Choir of New College. He also sings with Collegium Vocale, Ghent (director Phillipe Herreweghe) and Ex Cathedra.
