Season 2024/2025
THIS SEASON’S CHOSEN CENTREPIECE IS GIUSEPPE VERDI’S
MESSA DA REQUIEM
As our Musical Director Robert Dean comments:
A performance of Verdi’s mighty and theatrical Messa da Requiem is always a special event. It was the first choral work I heard in concert and the intense drama of the Dies Irae with its mightily booming Bass Drum punctuation still seems as hair-raising and apocalyptic to me today, as it did when I was a boy of 8. Next year, it will be nine years since we last sang it but that performance remains vividly etched in my memory and the work’s continuing popularity with choir, orchestra and audiences alike will hopefully ensure everybody’s support – and therefore financial support for our chosen charity. I hope you will be able to join us on what I know will be an exciting journey of re-discovery of this thrilling choral masterpiece.
A record-breaking 110 singers attended the workshop on 23 November – braving atrocious weather, but all seeming to think it was well worthwhile!!
Places at the Concert day on 22 February are all now taken – UNLESS YOU ARE A TENOR. But there will inevitably some who have to cancel between now and February, so if you want to be involved but do not yet have a place: please email Andy Button – [email protected] – and ask him to put you on the wait-list. Any ADDITIONAL TENORS who wish to book, click on the link below…
Audience tickets for the Concert are now on sale – do book for the family and pass the word to your friends.
